While the state of New York and the city of Cohoes are trying to halt the incineration of PFOA and PFOS at the Norlite hazardous waste incinerator, concerns are mounting of the health effects already caused by the burning of these wastes on the surrounding communities. Norlite quickly burned as much of these chemicals as they could knowing there was no proven technology or testing in place to determine if they were being destroyed in the incinerator. The burning went on for months as residents and the local governments tried to stop the company. As usual legal battles delay the implementation of any bans while the company raked in hundreds and thousands of dollars from the continued burning of these wastes.
